Rail Tours Australia is again conducting a 5 day tour showcasing the heritage railways of South Australia from Saturday 28th September to Wednesday 2nd October, 2019.
The tour will include visits to the National Railway Museum within the heritage area of Port Adelaide (home also to the South Australian Aviation Museum), the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre at Peterborough, Pichi Richi Railway in the scenic Flinders Ranges, The Tramway Museum at St Kilda, the Port Pirie Railway Station Museum, the Semaphore to Fort Glanville Railway, Steamranger Heritage Railway and much more.
For those people with an interest in the Outback and the Flinders Ranges, the Wadlata Outback Centre at Port Augusta will also be an highlight.
Guests will enjoy a full day of train travel on the Steamranger Southern Encounter from the Adelaide Hills to the Fleurieu Peninsula township of Victor Harbor. On the way, the train makes a stop at the River Murray town of Goolwa where guests can enjoy viewing the paddle steamer Oscar W.
The Pichi Richi Railway's steam hauled Pichi Richi Explorer from Quorn to Woolshed Flat and return is included, with a private charter organised on the railway's Brill Railcar to take guests from Port Augusta to Woolshed Flat and return for a dinner under the stars. With travel provide on the 2 trains, guests will be able to experience the whole length of the Pichi Richi Railway from Port Augusta to Quorn.
The Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre's Sound and Light Show will be a highlight on the Tuesday night. We will also get the opportunity to view the collection of older rollingstock and locomotives during the day on a guided tour around the Peterborough triple gauge roundhouse.
