Be picked up from your city accommodation and be guided through the streets of the City of Adelaide to the majestic Adelaide Railway Station, previously the home to the South Australian Railways when first built in the 1920's. Enjoy the beauty of the Webb era station complex which is now home to the Adelaide casino.

Next we travel north following the railway tracks out past North Adelaide to the workshops of the SAR, Islington Railway Workshops. Rich in railway and world war 2 history, the workshops have been slowly redeveloped into a shopping centre complex. Only the heritage listed buildings remain and the business of maintaining and building locomotives and rollingstock is only a shadow of it previous self.

Continuing north we view the Islington freight yards prior to travelling past the maintainance depot of the local Adelaide Metro railcar facility of Dry Creek. Whilst here we can also view the Motive Power Centre and marshalling yards of Dry Creek North.

Travel down to the Port of Adelaide and visit the National Railway Museum at the old Port Dock Station. Be guided through the museum following the history of the South Australian Railways and other influences within the railways of South Australia.

 

The majority of the National Railway Museum is undercover, making it a great destination on a wet and windy day. Enjoy static displayed locomotives and rollingstock, a 18 inch gauge operational railway and other exhibits permanantly on display.

 

During your time at the museum, travel down to the heritage wharf precinct of "The Port" for a stop for lunch and enjoy some of the maritime history South Australia has to offer.

After lunch either head back to the National Railway Museum for further exploring, pay a visit to the nearby South Australian Aviation Museum or travel down to the coastal suburb of Semaphore for a ride on the Semaphore to Fort Glanville 18 inch coastal railway( when operating). 

Inspect some of the railway yards of the Port area prior to either being dropped of at the Port Adelaide viaduct station where we end the tour and you travel via local train into Adelaide or be driven back into Adelaide and dropped at your city hotel.
