Be picked up from your city accommodation and travel to the area of Port Adelaide, often regarded as the museum capital of South Australia.

Spend time exploring Australia’s largest undercover railway museum, the National Railway Museum and step back in time as you visit some of the trains that made the Australian railways famous, such as the Tea and Sugar, the old Ghan and the Melbourne Express. Walk through old carriages, jump aboard the cabs of some of the preserved steam locomotives or just admire this popular form of travel from days past.

Home to no less than 5 gauges of railway and exhibits, the National Railway Museum is truly a world class museum with displays and exhibits surpassed by no other museum within Australia. Enjoy seeing broad, standard and narrow gauge history and rollingstock from the South Australian Railways, The Commonwealth Railways, Australian National Railways and many more. 

Enjoy lunch around the old heritage wharf precinct of “The Port”, home to many cafes, pubs, restaurants and other attractions, even a weekend market. 

After lunch either head back to the National Railway Museum for further exploring, pay a visit to the nearby South Australian Aviation Museum or travel down to the coastal suburb of Semaphore for a ride on the Semaphore to Fort Glanville 18 inch coastal railway ( when operating). 

Travel further along the coast and view the Grange golf course where the local suburban railway operates right through the middle of the greens.

Arrive at the birth place of South Australia, Glenelg and take time out to enjoy the history, shops, restaurants and attractions of “The Bay”. Enjoy the option of spending more time at Glenelg and catching the Glenelg tram back into Adelaide or be dropped off at your city accommodation.
